Remember that one time Taylor Swift’s song was leaked way before her album dropped? Oh, yeah, that’s right; you probably don’t because it never happened…
If we had to compare the act of attempting to leak a Taylor Swift track before its original album release date to something of equal challenge, think solving a Rubik’s cube with your eyes closed, or having a full-length conversation while being submerged underwater. In simpler terms, it ain’t gonna happen.
One of Taylor Swift’s many best friends, Ed Sheeran, revealed during a recent interview that not even HE can listen to a Taylor Swift song before its release without her being present. Of course, being a bonafide T-Swift bestie does have its perks, and one of them still is being able to listen to her songs before the rest of the public, but there are strict rules and regulations.
Ed revealed that Taylor would never just casually send new songs aimlessly parading through the cyber space, but that he does get a sneak peek. He said QUOTE, “I hear them, but it has to be with her.” Sounds like a valid rule, right?
But Ed then recalled an instance when Taylor sent someone to Ed, while guarding the song in their possession at all times, saying, “I remember when I did a song with her for her album, I was in San Francisco and they sent someone with a locked briefcase with an iPad and one song on it and they flew to San Francisco, and played the song I’ve done with her. And they asked if I like it and I was like ‘Yeah’ and then they took it back. That’s how I hear it.”
Ok so this doesn’t come as MUCH of a shock, considering Taylor has openly spoken about being paranoid of her songs leaking in the past. Back in 2014, she only allowed an interviewer to listen to her 1989 album through headphones on Taylor’s phone. She also flew an iPod to the director of the “Shake It Off” music video to ask if he liked the song and would want to direct the video, and has also stated that she’s paranoid of rooms being wiretapped or recorded, so she only listens to music through headphones if she’s not in the comfort of her own home.
The life of a superstar, everyone! But hey, this system has clearly never let her down once throughout her ten-year career, so keep doin’ what you’re doin’ Tay! But I’m curious to hear what you guys think… should all artists be taking this much precaution, or do you think Taylor totally overdoes it?
